AFECO signs MOU for Karachi waste project

At a signing ceremony at Glasgow City Chambers on Tuesday 10th July 2012, hosted by Baillie Mohammed Razaq on behalf of Glasgow City Council in the presence of the Dr Ishrat ul-Ibad Khan, Governor of Sindh, UK companies Cook Consulting (UK) Limited and Point Green Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Karachi Port Trust to provide wastewater treatment to areas served by the Trust.

This project targets treatment of 60 million imperial gallons per day of wastewater, with an estimated capital investment to Pakistan of $100 million USD over the period of development.

Commenting on the signing Richard Cook, CEO of Cook Consulting said, “This project will deliver very significant environmental and health benefits to the population of Karachi.  Today marks a beginning in the transformation of the Karachi Port Trust area and we now look forward to getting down to work.”

Principle technology provider Point Green, represented by its Managing Director, Andrew Robbins, also commented, “There are very obvious health and environment benefits to this project and I look forward to working in partnership with Karachi Port Trust on this very exciting venture.”

AFECO is working in partnership with Point Green to deliver the technical elements of this project and have signed a back to back MOU to this effect.
